How to Thread the Barudan BENT-ZQ-201U

Rethreading the upper thread will be necessary if
*If the color of your choice is not already threaded on one of the fifteen needles;
*When the upper thread breaks;
*If there is an unexplained problem with the stitching.
The process may seem daunting at first, but with practice it will become second nature. Take it slowly and be patient.

===To completely rethread the Upper Thread, follow these steps:===

====1. Remove the felt pad covering the first thread guide====

If you are replacing a cone that is already on the Barudan, you can tie a knot connecting the new cone to the thread from the existing cone, then '''pull down GENTLY''' until the thread reaches the thread keep bar just over the needles and presser feet.

Be sure that the thread feeds freely from the cone through the tubes to the front of the machine, and is not wound around the spindle or under the cone.

====3. Take the thread through the slotted post of the first tensioner. ====

=====You are placing the thread through the slot on the post that holds the two disks. Grasping a section of thread between your hands, place between the disks and pull forward until you feel the thread settle into the slot on the post. Then release the thread and continue.=====

====4. Take the thread from the left of the Pretensioner to the right of the nylon UTSM tension wheel and wrap it one and one-half times clockwise around the wheel. ====

====5. Take the thread down to the left side of both the top and bottom pegs. ====

====6. Pull the thread to the right of the tensioner assembly and wrap it 1.5 times between the disks and over the take-up spring. ====

====12. Reach underneath the apron and push the thread keep pin forward, so the thread can go through the hole, then pass the thread through the last eyelet. The thread keep consists of two plates, one stationary and the other moved by the thread keep pin. Be certain that the thread has been trapped between these two plates when you release the thread keep pin by pulling on the thread to confirm that it does not move. if it moves, try again until the thread is correctly positioned.====

====13. The final step is to put the thread in the last guide. This is easiest to do after the thread is through the needle. ====
*There is a semicircle of metal above the needle that the thread needs to go behind. The opening is on the right and slightly behind. ''If you choose to thread this guide before passing the thread through the eye of the needle, be sure that the thread lies to the left of the screw when the eye of the needle is threaded.''
*Pull on the end of your tail to take up slack in the line and use tweezers to pull the thread around the right side of the guide.
*Make sure that the thread has not twisted around the needle. (This is common.) The purpose of the final guide is to put the thread parallel to the front of the needle in a straight line.
*''Hint: It can be easier to thread the eye of the needle if you make a fresh cut in the thread at a very steep angle.''

What To Do When Things Go Wrong While Stitching

Sometimes unexpected things happen while you're embroidering a file. Here's what do to to fix the problem and get the Barudan stitching again.

==Thread Problems==
====If stitching stops and you see this error message, then either a thread has broken or you have run out of bobbin thread.====

====If the upper thread has broken, find the end of the thread and pull to release more. You may have to reach under the metal bar and pull the screw that releases the Thread Keep in order to pull the thread. Rethread from the break, and then double check to be sure that the path of the thread is still correct all the way from the felt bar to the eye of the needle. =====Place the trailing end of the thread you've re-threaded through the needle to the side of the area where the stitching will resume. After the new thread has been anchored with a few stitches, briefly pause the stitching by pressing the STOP key, then carefully cut the excess thread away close to the fabric. Then press the START key again to continue uninterrupted. =====

====If all of the upper threads are fine, then reach under the hoop, open the bobbin assembly arm, remove the bobbin case, and check to see if the bobbin thread has been exhausted. ====If a needle breaks while you are stitching, clip the thread and retrieve any broken pieces of the needle hanging on it or lying on the work.====

====Using a small screwdriver, loosen the needle clamp screw ''JUST ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE SHAFT OF THE NEEDLE TO BE REMOVED''====

====Insert the new needle as far up as possible, with the ''GROOVE SIDE IN FRONT''. An improperly inserted needle will not only not sew, but can damage the hook assembly.====

====Tighten the needle clamp screw to secure the needle.====

====Re-thread the needle, clear the error message, and continue stitching.====

==If You Need to Change the Point of Origin Manually==
====To change the point of origin manually, determine which is the selected needle position. With 'Drive' engaged, use the jog keys to move that needle into the desired position.====

====Press the ‘Drive’ button to disengage. The green light to the left of the icon will start blinking.====

====Hold ‘B’ and ‘C’ together for about 5 seconds, until the machine beeps. In the values box, the ABS and INC values are shown with a darker box, letting you know the origin has changed. ====

==Preparing the Needles==
====If you changed colors for any of the needles, threads will be hanging beneath the presser feet as shown below. Unsecured threads will become tangled in the working threads and may cause other problems.====

====To store the new thread properly, engage the Drive and choose the needle carrying the loose thread (You can find instructions here), then select the C button under the Trim Icon to choose ''Trim''. Then press the ''Start'' button. You will hear four beeps and the needle will be lowered into the arm assembly, be cut, then the hook will grab the thread and pull the end back into the thread keep. If the trailing thread was long, it may appear that the thread was not cut properly. Pull the excess thread left on the surface to free and discard it. Examine the area between the eye of the needle and the thread keep; repeat the process if the thread wasn't stored properly.====

Sometimes unexpected things happen while you're embroidering a file. Here's what do to to fix the problem and get the Barudan stitching again.

==Thread Problems==
====If stitching stops and you see this error message, then either a thread has broken or you have run out of bobbin thread.====

You may have to reach under the metal bar and pull the screw that releases the Thread Keep in order to pull the thread. Rethread from the break, and then double check to be sure that the path of the thread is still correct all the way from the felt bar to the eye of the needle.
