MakerFX is home to a professional-class Epilog Legend 36EXT 50 watt laser engraver, which engraves and cuts acrylic, wood, paper, and much more. We also have the rotary tool which is great for engraving glasses or stainless steel tumblers. MakerFX membership provides training and use of the laser for prototyping and creative projects.

Want to learn more about laser engraving and cutting, or get started making your own items on the laser? Visit MakerFX for a Friday OpenMake night (info and RSVP on meetup), or email us for more information.

Sample items we’ve made with the Epilog laser

:Laser-engraved keychains
:Cake topper made from two layers of acrylic from hand-drawn art
:Mother’s day present made with scrap red acrylic
:Fidget spinner made with the laser
:Fidget spinner cut on the Epilog Laser
:Engraving and cutting keychains

And in case you were curious, makers don’t refer to these devices as “3D laser printers” – that’s just smart marketing for a specific company that hasn’t shipped product yet. 🙁

=Policies for the Epilog Legend 36EXT 50 watt Laser Engraver=
Minors can only operate the laser under MakerFX member adult supervision.

The Dewalt DW788 20" Variable-Speed Scroll Saw operates quietly and smoothly for accuracy. The tool-free blade clamp allows for quick and easy blade changes. Convenient placement on the liftable arm of the dust blower, power switch, and saw adjustments on the front of the upper arm provide for easy adjustment. Oversized, cast-iron table provides excellent material support and has the ability to bevel to both the left and right. Use only 5" plain end scroll saw blades. Pin end scroll saw blades cannot be used with the DW788. This saw has a maximum thickness capacity of 2" and a stroke Length of 3/4"
Location: Wood Zone

A band saw is basically a "curve cutting" machine. It is not capable of doing inside cutting. For inside cutting use our [[Dewalt 20 inch Scroll Saw]]. The Craftsman Band Saw-Sander is not only capable of the usual band saw operations, but it can he converted into a sander as well. You can finish wood, certain compositions and plastics. It is also used for straight-line cutting operations such as crosscutting, ripping, mitering, beveling, compound cutting, and resawing. The Craftsman 12" Bandsaw-Sander takes an 80" blade or an 80", 1/2" wide sanding belt.

There is a Vacuum port on the back of the saw. Hook the shop vac to the port during operations.

The blade width determines how tight a curve that can be cut.

The smallest radius a 1/8" wide blade is capable of cutting is 1/4"
The smallest radius a 3/16" wide blade is capable of cutting is 1/2"
The smallest radius a 1/4" wide blade is capable of cutting is 3/4"
The smallest radius a 3/8" wide blade is capable of cutting is 1"
The smallest radius a 1/2" wide blade is capable of cutting is 1.25"

To lube the tension lever, you will need to remove the 4 screws that hold the black control cover and then remove the screw that holds the tension lever down. Grease can be placed on the bottom side of the lever. Use blue Locktite to secure the lever hold down bolt.
This saw has a maximum thickness capacity of 2" and a stroke Length of 3/4"
Now you can simply pull the filter out, or use a screwdriver to pop the filter out. The inner filter can now be pulled out of the unit. The inner filter can be blown out with compressed air. The filters should be replaced depending on the amount of usage. Clogged filters will reduce the amount of air circulation. There is an arrow indicating the air flow direction on the outer filter.
=Changing and Cleaning Filters=

There are two filters that need to be changed. The outer filter can easily be removed by disengaging the two clips. Make sure the filter is inserted facing the proper direction.
