(Metal) Cut off saws can be identified as different from (wood) miter saws by the clamp used to hold the material.  Any material in a cut off saw should be secured, as the forces involved can easily exceed a persons ability to safely hold them.


Cut off saw blades either have toothed blades or abrasive discs.  abrasive discs should NEVER be used on aluminum or other soft metals.


In most cases, ferric metals (iron and steel) should NOT be cut with a toothed blade.
